Philippe Sands claims that on Sep 25 2002, several high level government lawyers traveled to Guantanamo Bay. [1]
According to Sands they were
- Alberto Gonzales[1]
- John Rizzo[1]
- David Addington[1]
- Jim Haynes[1]
Sands claims they talked about interrogation methods with staff there. His main named sources are Michael Dunlavey and Diane Beaver. [1]
Sands also claims they witnessed interrogations. [1]
The Senate inquiry mentions the visit as well, but does not name Alberto Gonzales as a visitor [2]
There is also the Senate document index, tab 6, for "The Origins of Aggressive Interrogation Techniques", which on page 12 prints a 'trip report, DoD General Counsel visit to GTMO'
- Haynes
- Addington
- Rizzo
- Honorable Mr Chertoff, DOJ Criminal Division
- 'and others'
