SERE stands for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape. It is a military training program to teach military personnel to among other things, survive being captured and possibly tortured. [1]

It is overseen by JPRA, in the DOD.[2]

The Senate Armed Services Committee released a report about detainee treatment on Apr 22 2009. It's called Inquiry Into the Treatment of Detainees in U.S. Custody. It mentions SERE.
